It is important to arm yourself with a list of questions before seeing a photographer, and prepare a selection of some of the ideas you have seen and liked with you to give him or her some idea of what you are looking for.

These questions should be on your list:

·         Will he/she be taking the photographs or an assistant

·         Ask to see examples of his work. To give you the best idea, ask to see the work on CD

·         Do they use digital cameras

·         How and where images will be stored

·         Who owns the copyright to the photographs

·         Does he supply back up equipment and assistants or stand-ins if necessary?

·         Is he/she familiar with the location, and has he/she worked there before?

·         If he/she specifies a time limit, and his/her policy regarding extra time

·         When will your proofs and photographs be ready?

·         Can you get a CD as well?

·         Exactly what is included in the package?

·         What you are entitled to in event of accident, loss or injury

·         How many, if any, other functions he/she has on the same day?

Some of the details that should be included in the contract are:

·         Name of the person taking the pictures

·         Names of assistant

·         Delivery date of photographs

·         Inclusion of a wedding album, wedding photo book, or wedding storybook

·         Package/number of photo’s

·         Who will stand in for him/her if he/she is not able to be present

·         Insurance against equipment failure

·         Who owns the copyright

·         Who keeps the proofs

·         Delivery date
